Charles Rivkin, Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Economic & Business Affairs, USA, along with a high level delegation, held discussions with senior representatives of The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council, Bharat Diamond Bourse and the Seepz Gem & Jewellery Manufacturers Association on Saturday, November 15th at the Bharat Diamond Bourse to discuss key concerns on Indo-US trade in the gems and jewellery sector.

Exports of polished diamonds from Antwerp were marginally down by 3.63% in value terms during the month of October 2014, from US$ 1.33 mn a year ago to US4 1.28 mn this year, according to statistics released by the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC). The drop was attributed to the fact that both the Jewish holidays of Sukkot and Simchat Torah and the Indian festival Diwali fell in this month, though last year they were in September and November respectively.

The India Pavilion at Jewellery Arabia 2014 will not only be the country’s largest ever at the fair but will also sport a new and more contemporary look. It will comprise 61 exhibitors and occupy 968 sq. mtrs of space, over 15% bigger than the last year. The fair, which opens tomorrow at Bahrain International Convention & Exhibition Centre, runs till November 22,
