ALROSA Ranked Among Top 10 in WWF Russia’s Annual Environmental Transparency Ratings

ALROSA has been ranked among the top 10 in the annual Environmental Transparency Rating list of mining & metals companies of Russia for the year compiled by WWF. The Rating is based on an evaluation of the Company’s environmental management as well as environmental impact and level of disclosures, the Russian diamond miner said in a release last Friday.\r\n\r\nThe main objectives of the research, initiated by WWF Russia with the support of the European Union and UN Environment Programme, are to increase the corporate responsibility of mining and metals companies and to create effective engagement mechanisms for the industry with stakeholders.\r\n\r\nIn 2019, the Rating became a part of the WWF-EU project "People for Nature".\r\n\r\nALROSA said that its active cooperation during the Rating calculation was particularly highlighted.\r\n\r\nThe WWF rating allows a comparison of information on the level of environmental responsibility of mining and metals companies and the scale of their impact on the environment, including biodiversity conservation, and also gives an idea of the dynamic pattern of the industry as a whole.\r\n\r\n“We are grateful to WWF Russia for recognizing our efforts in the environmental area. ALROSA is committed to preserving the environment and minimizing an impact on it. Mining in accordance with the principles of sustainable development, reducing energy and water consumption, emissions and waste, and rehabilitating disturbed lands are our constant priorities. We pay great attention to countering climate change by implementing the latest technologies," says Polina Anisimova, ALROSA’s Chief Ecologist.\r\n\r\nIn 2018, ALROSA spent over 5 billion rubles for environmental measures.\r\n\r\nALROSA has won a number of other citations in this area including being chosen as a constituent of the FTSE4Good Index Series created by the global index and data provider FTSE Russell, which measures the performance of companies demonstrating strong Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices; a BB rating in the MSCI ESG rating system that assesses environment, social responsibility and corporate governance; and being certified under the Code of Practices of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) through meeting the highest ethical, human rights, social and environmental standards.
