Community Development: ALROSA Finances Work for Improvement of Water Supply in Yakutia

ALROSA undertook one more project for positive impact on communities it works within, with the roll-out of its joint programme with the Government of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia).

The programme, which will be carried out in the period 2019-24, will “continue working on the improvement of the water supply in several districts of the Republic of Sakha”, with the specific aim of providing the population of the Vilyui ulus group with high-quality drinking water, the Company said.

Under the programme, new water treatment plants are envisaged to be set up in 14 settlements of the “diamond province”.

ALROSA is a major investor of the programme through the Future Generations Fund.

So far, the municipalities have already received 10 water trucks at a total cost of RUB 33.4 million; six more water trucks are scheduled to be delivered until the end of 2024.

“New water treatment plants with the capacity of 20, 50 and 100 cubic meters per day are launched in four villages of Verkhnevilyuisky district,” said Sergey Mestnikov, CEO of the Future Generation Fund, elaborating on the programme. “Pre-commissioning works are underway in five villages of Suntarsky district, and in one village of Nyurbinsky district. There are also four plants in the town of Vilyuisk and Verkhnevilyuisk village. In Q1, new water treatment plants will appear in four more villages.”

ALROSA says that together with municipalities and non-budgetary sources, a total investment of around RUB 280 million has been made in this project. The programme also includes modernisation and construction of water wells and conduits, the Company added.
