ALROSA Gets New Vice President: Vladimir Marchenko to Head Africa Operations

ALROSA has appointed Vladimir Marchenko as Vice-President of the Company as of September 20, 2017. Marchenko comes to ALROSA from Pan African Metals Corporation where he was last posted as President of that Company. Marchenko will now head ALROSA’s operations and activities in Africa.

Born in 1970, Marchenko graduated from the Oriental faculty of the Military Institute with a degree in foreign languages and completed the MBA programme from the International Institute of Management.

Explaining the significance of the newly created post, ALROSA President Sergey Ivanov said: “ALROSA is dynamically developing activities in the African continent. The company has already reached agreements on increasing the share in Catoca Ltd. Mining Co. in Angola and plans to participate in the operation of the new large Angolan deposit "Luaxe". Furthermore, ALROSA actively participates in geological exploration in Angola and Botswana, and we still consider that the countries of southern Africa have a great potential for discovering new deposits. I am sure that Vladimir Marchenko's experience and professionalism will help the company to achieve the desired goals.”

ALROSA, a co-founder of Catoca Ltd. Mining Co. has a 32.8% share in that company and plans to take its holding to 41% by the end of the year.

The Angolan company’s Catoca pipe is said to be the fourth largest pipe in the world, currently. “Through Catoca Ltd. Mining Co., ALROSA also plans to participate in the development of the Luaxe concession (the Luele pipe), which also claims to be one of the largest in the world,” ALROSA added.

Since 2014, ALROSA has also been involved in carrying out extensive geological exploration in Angola as part of a joint venture with Angola’s national diamond-mining company ENDIAMA E.P.

“The second priority area for ALROSA is the Republic of Botswana,” ALROSA stated. “Sunland Minerals, a joint venture between ALROSA and British company Botswana Diamonds Plc, which has solid years of experience in the country, operates in Botswana.”

Presently, the companies are jointly exploring four areas to discover primary diamond deposits and get licenses for their development.
