A Six Carat Stone Becomes the Largest Ever Synthetic CVD Diamond to be Produced

WD Lab Grown Diamonds, a Maryland-based manufacturer of synthetic diamonds announced recently that it had succeeded in creating a six carat stone through its patented technology – the  largest-ever round CVD diamond to be produced in the USA.

The Company said this stone “now stands as the world's only known lab-made CVD diamond of its size and shape”.

The stone was grown at  the Company's facility located just outside Washington, DC, where the lab produces CVD stones for the gemstone market as well as industrial and scientific uses. As this 6-carat CVD diamond was sold within a month of its production, the lab feels there is an  “immediate demand” for a man-made diamond of that size and quality.  Now, the Company is tackling the task of growing stones larger than six carats in its lab.

“The large gem stone, made through the company's Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) process, was grown in just a few months, as opposed to the millions of years it takes to form a diamond in nature,” the Company said.

"We're excited about our new world record for round lab-grown diamonds," said Clive Hill, founder and chairman at WD Lab Grown Diamonds. "Our patented technology and industry-leading engineers consistently provide top quality results that only the latest innovation can offer. This 6-carat white diamond would price similarly to a 3.5 carat mined diamond with the same quality. Consumers have the opportunity to get much more diamond for the same money – that's a top reason why they choose lab-grown diamonds."
