US Online Spending Rises 7.5% To $451.7 Billion In H1

From January to June 2022, US consumers have spent a total of $451.7 billion online, growing 7.5% year-on-year (YoY), according to Adobe Analytics. In June 2022, consumers spent $74.1 billion online which represents approximately 1% YoY growth, but spending was down 4.7% versus April and 6% lower than May owing to continuing inflation and a deferred Amazon Prime Day, it added.

The Amazon Prime Day event, which historically drives higher levels of overall online spending within June, will be occurring in July this year, Adobe informed.

In June 2022, online prices increased 0.3% (YoY) while decreasing 1% month-over-month (MoM). While this marks the 25th month of inflation online YoY, June is the third month where online price increases have slowed, Adobe noted.

Key categories including online electronics and apparel saw price decreases, driving down online retail inflation overall. In June 2022, jewellery saw price decreases of -1.83% YoY, but increased +1.68% MoM.
