Prakshi Sharma\u2019s diamond jewellery renditions have a modern spirit. Ear cuffs, palm cuffs, bracelets, rings and necklaces are dressed in just the right number of diamonds for an effortless, striking appearance. Sharma follows the \u2018less is more mantra\u2019 when it comes to designs. Each diamond is celebrated for its inherent beauty through its meticulous placement in the overall design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The designer uses a lot of fancy cuts, especially trillion cut which is her favourite, and playfully mixes them up for a unique design. She also uses emeralds and sapphires in her jewellery with the same methodic treatment, lending just right the right burst of colour to the piece. Her enamelled creations, too, with a smattering of diamonds, have a timeless element to it. While the pieces are crafted in India, the treatment and designs transcend geographical boundaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hailing from a family of jewellers, Sharma graduated in Economics only to turn to her true passion of jewellery design a few years down the line. She founded her eponymous label Prakshi Fine Jewellery in 2012. Her jewellery is stocked in select boutiques in India, Dubai, Kuwait, Doha, and Mumbai. She also has a presence in USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prakshi Sharma speaks about her plans to make further inroads in India, the Middle East and Europe in the casual luxury segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u00a0drew you to\u00a0the\u00a0world of\u00a0jewellery design?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u00a0have always been an artistic\u00a0person.\u00a0Right\u00a0from\u00a0my childhood, I\u2019ve\u00a0won awards in art\u00a0competitions.\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0naturally\u00a0been drawn to\u00a0photography,\u00a0visual imagery and capturing\u00a0everything\u00a0that\u00a0I\u00a0find aesthetic,\u00a0both\u00a0in terms\u00a0of\u00a0pictures\u00a0and designs.\u00a0When\u00a0I\u00a0was pursuing my graduation\u00a0in Economics,\u00a0a part of\u00a0me always yearned for\u00a0something\u00a0more,\u00a0something\u00a0more hands-on,\u00a0something\u00a0more exciting.\u00a0Being born and raised with\u00a0a jewellery heritage,\u00a0I\u00a0always had that\u00a0knack in me. I realised I wanted to create jewellery that\u00a0is when I\u00a0decided to\u00a0pursue Jewellery Design from\u00a0FIT,\u00a0New\u00a0York,\u00a0and haven\u2019t\u00a0stopped\u00a0since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Has your design philosophy always been simple and minimalistic?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u00a0has,\u00a0and more than\u00a0that,\u00a0simplicity and minimalistic\u00a0for\u00a0me means\u00a0timeless\u00a0and versatile.\u00a0My design\u00a0philosophy might\u00a0be evolving over time,\u00a0but\u00a0I\u00a0still\u00a0like all my designs.\u00a0I\u00a0never look back and wonder why I\u00a0made this.\u00a0They\u00a0truly\u00a0reflect\u00a0my personality\u00a0and my tastes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u00a0inspires your collections?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m\u00a0a globe-trotter,\u00a0so a lot\u00a0of\u00a0inspiration\u00a0for\u00a0my collections\u00a0comes from\u00a0nature,\u00a0my travel,\u00a0and my state\u00a0of\u00a0mind.\u00a0Citylights\u00a0came about\u00a0when I\u00a0was living in New\u00a0York\u00a0gazing at\u00a0the\u00a0skyline every\u00a0evening.\u00a0Be\u00a0Free\u00a0came about\u00a0when I\u00a0returned\u00a0to India,\u00a0fighting\u00a0against\u00a0the\u00a0patriarchy.\u00a0Rewind was inspired by the\u00a0beauty\u00a0of\u00a0unfinished\u00a0ruins of\u00a0the Colosseum.\u00a0Rise was inspired by a trip\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0hills,\u00a0and Escape\u00a0from\u00a0my perennial wanderlust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u00a0is it\u00a0that\u00a0draws you to\u00a0diamonds?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As\u00a0a kid,\u00a0I\u00a0admired the\u00a0sparkle of\u00a0diamonds more than\u00a0anything\u00a0else.\u00a0As\u00a0I\u00a0grew older, I\u00a0realised they symbolise perseverance.\u00a0They\u00a0take\u00a0years to\u00a0form\u00a0and that\u00a0is something\u00a0one can connect with. That\u2019s\u00a0why diamonds have an emotional\u00a0value.\u00a0They\u2019re\u00a0rare,\u00a0timeless,\u00a0and are heirlooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which\u00a0is your favourite\u00a0diamond cut\u00a0and why?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u00a0think\u00a0my favourite\u00a0diamond cut\u00a0is the trillion cut as they look edgy.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0not\u00a0very commonly used and that\u00a0is enough of a motivation\u00a0for me to\u00a0experiment\u00a0with.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which\u00a0gemstones\u00a0do you like to\u00a0work with?\u00a0Why?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While\u00a0I\u00a0really like working with\u00a0emeralds,\u00a0I\u00a0love the\u00a0variety\u00a0of\u00a0colours that\u00a0sapphires offer.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0fun\u00a0to\u00a0design with\u00a0them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tell\u00a0us about\u00a0your latest\u00a0collection\u00a0and the\u00a0inspiration\u00a0behind it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0latest\u00a0collection\u00a0is called Bloom.\u00a0Conceptualised\u00a0in the\u00a0times\u00a0of\u00a0a global pandemic,\u00a0Bloom is about growing,\u00a0about\u00a0adapting,\u00a0about\u00a0re-forming.\u00a0Just\u00a0like vines\u00a0and flora,\u00a0nature\u00a0blooms through\u00a0thick\u00a0and thin, and\u00a0humans could do the same. Bloom\u00a0is a ray of\u00a0hope to\u00a0heal and thrive\u00a0regardless of\u00a0obstacles\u00a0through\u00a0patience, resilience,\u00a0and nurturing.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nature gave me hope during the pandemic, and\u00a0I\u00a0wanted\u00a0to\u00a0reflect\u00a0that\u00a0in this\u00a0collection.\u00a0The\u00a0inspiration\u00a0has been translated\u00a0into\u00a0vine-like motifs,\u00a0floral\u00a0wreaths,\u00a0and coloured gemstones\u00a0that are full\u00a0of\u00a0life.\u00a0There\u00a0are pieces in black enamel and colourless diamonds, too,\u00a0which symbolise endurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u00a0is your best-selling\u00a0product?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our ear cuffs and palm cuffs are best-sellers. While\u00a0many think\u00a0of\u00a0my brand as Westernised,\u00a0the\u00a0truth\u00a0is that\u00a0they\u2019re inspired by our own Indian\u00a0jewellery heritage.\u00a0Ear cuffs\u00a0and palm cuffs were worn by Indian kings and queens in the erstwhile royal era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you design for men or women? Do you have an ideal profile in mind?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u00a0like to\u00a0design for\u00a0a client\u00a0who believes in casual luxury.\u00a0I\u00a0want\u00a0my designs to\u00a0be more wearable and versatile, and to\u00a0be worn every day.\u00a0My ideal client\u00a0would be someone ambitious\u00a0yet\u00a0modest, with\u00a0minimal aesthetic\u00a0sensibilities.\u00a0Someone\u00a0who appreciates\u00a0the\u00a0simple pleasures in life \u2026 like a timeless piece of\u00a0fine\u00a0jewellery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u00a0are your plans for\u00a0the\u00a0brand?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While\u00a0we have created\u00a0an international\u00a0presence in the\u00a0United\u00a0States\u00a0and Middle East,\u00a0we\u2019re planning to\u00a0strengthen\u00a0the\u00a0latter,\u00a0as well as enter\u00a0European\u00a0markets.\u00a0Covid has delayed some of\u00a0our plans but\u00a0we\u2019re also going to strengthen our visibility\u00a0in the\u00a0Indian\u00a0subcontinent\u00a0as we now see more potential\u00a0in the\u00a0casual luxury space.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
