Christie\u2019s New York auction of Magnificent Jewels on 8th<\/sup> June achieved a total of $48,872,000 with 95% sold by lot and 98% by value. The auction was led by the Light of Africa diamond, a D colour, Flawless, Type IIa, emerald-cut diamond of 103.49 carats, with excellent polish and symmetry, which achieved $20,084,000 and ranks as the fifth most valuable colourless diamond ever offered at Christie\u2019s. The diamond, unearthed from the Cullinan diamond mine, was cut and polished from a 299.3-carat rough by Stargems Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jewellery from the Ann & Gordon Getty Collection and Twelve Jewels by JAR from the Estate of Ann Getty highlighted the sale and totalled $5,900,580. One of the largest and most important private collections of works by the visionary designer Joel Arthur Rosenthal to appear at auction, Ann Getty\u2019s striking group of jewels by JAR achieved exceptional results, including: a multi-gem, diamond and lacquer \u2018Parrot Tulip\u2019 brooch, which sold for $831,600; a set of three diamond, ruby and coloured sapphire \u2018Fleur-Pompons\u2019 brooches, which sold for $579,600; and an agate, diamond and sapphire \u2018Zebra\u2019 brooch, which sold for $554,000. A portion of the proceeds from the Ann & Gordon Getty Collection sold will be given by Mr. Getty to a Ukrainian relief fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rahul Kadakia, International Head of Jewelry, Christie\u2019s, remarked: \u201cThe Magnificent Jewels auction at Christie\u2019s New York rounded off an incredible sale season with solid results worldwide. We look forward to the rest of our online jewellery sales in London, New York, and Paris, which run through the end of June.\u201d The sale also achieved strong results for jewellery from notable private collections, such as: a selection of Bulgari jewellery from the collection of Signora Silvana Mangano, led by a Bulgari Fancy Intense yellow diamond \u2018Trombino\u2019 ring of 15.98 carats, which sold for $693,000; a Van Cleef & Arpels set of coral and gold jewellery, formerly in the collection of Mrs. Brooke Astor, which realised $75,600; and a pair of emerald and diamond earrings of 13.79 and 12.14 carats from the Property of a Private Collector, which achieved $1,260,000.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
