{"id":20952,"date":"2023-05-03T13:12:57","date_gmt":"2023-05-03T07:42:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gjepc.org\/solitaire\/?p=20952"},"modified":"2023-05-03T13:12:57","modified_gmt":"2023-05-03T07:42:57","slug":"gia-updates-pearl-reports-with-peacock-colour-range-for-tahitian-pearls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gjepc.org\/solitaire\/gia-updates-pearl-reports-with-peacock-colour-range-for-tahitian-pearls\/","title":{"rendered":"GIA Updates Pearl Reports With \u201cPeacock\u201d Colour Range For Tahitian Pearls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is adding a report comment employing the trade colour term \u201cPeacock\u201d for designated colours of cultured pearls from the <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Pinctada margaritifera<\/span><\/em> black-lipped pearl oyster, commonly known as Tahitian pearls. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; color: black;\">GIA\u2019s industry analysis yielded the identification of the colour range that was commonly agreed upon within the pearl trade as \u201cpeacock\u201d.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"> The general description of that colour range is: a body colour with a hue that contains green, of mid-to-strong saturation and mid-to-dark tone, and with moderate or stronger overtone (usually pink, but may be other hues) or orient.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">When a pearl, strand or jewellery item meets the carefully defined colour parameters for \u2018<em><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Peacock,<\/span><\/em>\u2019 a comment that states: <em><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">This pearl is often referred to as a \u201cTahitian\u201d cultured pearl in the trade, and it falls into the select colour range that is known as \u201cpeacock\u201d <\/span><\/em>(or a variation thereof) will be added to any GIA pearl report. There will be no additional fee for this change. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Tom Moses, Executive Vice President and Chief Laboratory and Research Officer, said: \u201cThis change comes about after a year of researching the historical and current use of the colour term \u2018<em><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Peacock,<\/span><\/em>\u2019 as well as considered industry feedback. Based on our industry findings and GIA\u2019s mission to educate consumers to make informed purchasing decisions, adding this descriptive trade-term to report better serves consumers.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">GIA has been a leader in the identification and classification of natural and cultured pearls since 1949. It has contributed to revising the US Federal Trade Commission\u2019s pearl guidelines for the jewellery industry and is responsible for working with major pearl companies globally to develop comprehensive standards for describing pearls.
