In an effort to curb Russia\u2019s ongoing military actions in Ukraine, the United States has imposed additional sanctions on individuals and entities associated with Russia\u2019s military capabilities, energy projects, and financial activities. Russian diamond mining giant Alrosa is among those targeted and its CEO, Pavel Alekseevich Marinychev, has been designated as part of these sanctions, according to the U.S. Department of State.<\/p>\n
The sanctions, authorised under Executive Order 14024, aim to degrade Russia\u2019s military capabilities, reduce its revenue from future energy projects, and address sanctions evasion by targeting those aiding Russia in procuring sensitive materials. Additionally, the US is working to constrain Russia\u2019s use of the international financial system to support its military actions.<\/p>\n
Marinychev\u2019s role as CEO of PJSC Alrosa has led to his designation under the sanctions. Alrosa is a diamond mining company majority-owned by the Russian government and has been under scrutiny for its involvement in Russia\u2019s actions in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
