The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) has announced the launch of its new Laboratory Grown Materials Standard (LGMS). The new standard sets clear guidelines for lab-grown diamonds and coloured gemstones, reinforcing responsible business practices in alignment with the RJC\u2019s 2024 Code of Practices (COP).<\/p>\n
Lab-grown diamonds and gemstones, including rubies, emeralds, and sapphires, have been part of the jewellery sector for years. With their growing market presence, the RJC recognised the need for a dedicated framework that ensures integrity and sustainability across the supply chain. The LGMS applies to all RJC members handling lab-grown materials and introduces stringent requirements for legal compliance, intellectual property, waste management, and product transparency.<\/p>\n
For the first year, compliance with LGMS will be voluntary for existing RJC members. After this initial phase, it will become mandatory for all members handling lab-grown materials.
