De Beers Group has reported major strides in its sustainability and provenance agenda, underscoring its commitment to building consumer confidence in responsibly sourced natural diamonds. The update comes with the release of the company\u2019s 2024 Sustainability Report, highlighting achievements across climate, livelihoods, nature, and traceability.<\/p>\n
The report shows a 7% cut in Scope 1 and 2 emissions since 2021, with renewable energy projects in South Africa and Botswana set to power operations by 2026. De Beers has also mapped out Scope 3 emission reductions in collaboration with 100 strategic partners and had its targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative.<\/p>\n
Socioeconomic contributions were also strong, with $2.9 billion delivered in taxes and economic value in 2024. Safety reached record levels, while initiatives like EntreprenHER, GirlEng, and Stanford SEED supported thousands of women and entrepreneurs across southern Africa.<\/p>\n
On the conservation front, the company managed 375,000 acres of protected land, relocated white rhinos, and partnered on projects to protect the Okavango Delta and the endangered African Penguin.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, De Beers expanded its Tracr blockchain platform, registering nearly three million diamonds to strengthen traceability and introduce origin verification. Building on this, the group launched ORIGIN \u2013 De Beers Group, a polished diamond programme offering retailers blockchain-tracked diamonds complete with verified provenance and impact stories.<\/p>\n
