Current GIA laboratory services for D-to-Z laboratory-grown diamonds will be available until 30 September.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUsing descriptive terms for the quality of laboratory-grown diamonds is appropriate as most fall into a very narrow range of colour and clarity,\u201d said Pritesh Patel, GIA president and CEO. \u201cBecause of that, GIA will no longer use the nomenclature created for natural diamonds to describe what is a manufactured product.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The GIA Laboratory-Grown Diamond Quality Assessment will use descriptive terms rather than the GIA-developed nomenclature for natural diamonds. The laboratory-grown diamonds will be described as \u2018Premium\u2019 or \u2018Standard\u2019 based on an overall assessment of their clarity, color and cut. Any diamond that does not meet all the minimum criteria for \u2018Standard\u2019 will not receive a GIA assessment.<\/p>\n<p>Laboratory-grown diamonds that meet all the following criteria will be classified as \u2018Premium.\u2019<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clarity \u2013 Very, Very Slightly included and higher<\/li>\n<li>Color \u2013 D<\/li>\n<li>Polish, symmetry \u2013 Excellent<\/li>\n<li>Cut grade \u2013 Excellent (round brilliant cut diamonds only)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Laboratory-grown diamonds that meet any combination of the \u2018Premium\u2019 criteria and the following minimum criteria will be classified as \u2018Standard.\u2019<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clarity \u2013 Very Slightly included<\/li>\n<li>Color \u2013 E-to-J<\/li>\n<li>Polish \u2013 Very Good<\/li>\n<li>Symmetry \u2013 Very Good (or Good for fancy shapes)<\/li>\n<li>Cut grade \u2013 Very Good (round brilliant cut diamonds only)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The fee for the GIA Laboratory-Grown Diamond Quality Assessment is $15 per carat, with a minimum fee of $15. Submissions that do not meet the minimum criteria for assessment will be charged a $5 evaluation fee. The minimum size for submission is 0.15 carats.
