The standard is a modified adoption of ISO 18323 and focuses on strengthening consumer confidence through uniform disclosure norms.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Under the new standard, the term \u201cdiamond\u201d used without qualification refers only to natural diamonds. For laboratory-grown diamonds, the standard requires clear and immediate disclosure,\u00a0permitting\u00a0only the terms \u201claboratory-grown diamond\u201d or \u201claboratory-created diamond\u201d for commercial use. Certain descriptive or promotional terms that could create confusion are not\u00a0permitted, while \u201csynthetic diamond\u201d may be used in import or export documentation where required by regulation.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">GJEPC, which\u00a0initiated\u00a0discussions leading to the development of the standard in coordination with BIS and the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, has said the framework aligns India\u2019s diamond trade with globally recognised guidelines and provides clarity for consumers and the trade<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Commenting on the development, Richa Singh, Managing Director,\u00a0NDC, said:\u00a0\u201cConsumer protection is central to everything we do at the Natural Diamond Council. Clear, consistent terminology is essential to\u00a0maintaining\u00a0trust.
