The event, one of Europe\u2019s leading trade shows, took place as the US Supreme Court invalidated many of President Donald Trump\u2019s tariffs and as he responded by imposing across-the-board 10%\u00a0then 15%\u00a0tariffs.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

By the fourth day of INHORGENTA, set in the Messe\u00a0M\u00fcnchen\u00a0show grounds,\u00a0gold prices had surged to three-week highs above\u00a0$5,160 per ounce, due to \u201csafe haven\u201d investor buying,\u00a0creating further challenges for\u00a0jewellers,\u00a0who have now got into the habit of regularly re-pricing goods\u00a0due to volatile precious metals prices.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The key theme of the 2026 edition of INHORGENTA, well attended from the start, was\u00a0Craftsmanship,\u00a0with\u00a0large, dedicated\u00a0areas\u00a0showcasing\u00a0craftspeople from various countries at work at the bench.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A special exhibition, called\u00a0Atelier,\u00a0presented\u00a0a variety of crafts techniques, such as enamelling, new alloys,\u00a0lacquer\u00a0and inlay.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As INHORGENTA\u00a0got under way, Exhibition\u00a0Director Stefanie\u00a0Maendlein\u00a0spoke of expectations for steady year-on-year visitor numbers of around 25,000, including a larger overseas contingent at this edition, with exhibitor numbers led by suppliers and brands from Germany, Italy,\u00a0India\u00a0and China.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Trade association leader Guido Grohmann,\u00a0said skyrocketing precious metals prices since 2022, and geopolitical uncertainties, had squeezed the middle segment of Germany\u2019s domestic jewellery market.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, he added that the top end of the German jewellery market was resilient due to the attractiveness of gold as a store of value.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The lower end of the market was stable, although it had felt the impact of the increase in silver prices, he said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

INHORGENTA featured an extensive variety of panel discussions, including one on February 21, about the impact of precious metals price volatility on jewellery manufacturing.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The panel, moderated by Jewellery Outlook Editor David Brough, included Sandro Erl, CEO of German jewellery\u00a0manufacturer\u00a0Niessing, Jayant Raniga, CEO of\u00a0British-Asian\u00a0retailer and manufacturer\u00a0PureJewels, and\u00a0\u00c7a\u011fda\u015f\u202fKucukemiroglu\u00a0, Consultant,<\/span>\u202f<\/span><\/b>Metals Focus.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jayant Raniga said that in volatile markets, the instinct was often to chase price points.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He added that this can\u00a0lead to:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  • Making jewellery progressively lighter to meet psychological thresholds<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n
    • Engineering visual scale with minimal metal<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      • Relying heavily on high-energy, high-consumption processes<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
          \n
        • Accepting higher technical complexity and potential wastage.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          \u201cFor us, that is not a sustainable long-term response,\u201d Jayant Raniga said.\u00a0\u201cAt\u00a0PureJewels, we believe accessibility should come through thoughtful collection families, meaningful symbolism, and intelligent design architecture and not through dilution of structural product integrity,\u201d he added.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          The Indian pavilion, backed by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), was presented in more than one location at the show.\u00a0In Hall B2, Sanjay Garg presented the new\u00a0Hekkad\u00a0high jewellery collection by S. Vinodkumar, including a pair of natural diamond and unheated ruby earrings, and a coral-set bracelet.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          A highlight of INHORGENTA was\u00a0the show\u2019s Awards evening on February 21.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          The winners of the INHORGENTA AWARD 2026 were honoured at the Bavaria Film\u00a0Studios in front of more than 500 guests from industry,\u00a0retail\u00a0and media.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          The evening was hosted by TV presenter Nazan Eckes and accompanied by singer LOI.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          \u201cThe INHORGENTA AWARD demonstrates year after year the level of innovation and craftsmanship that define the jewellery, watch and gemstone industry. This year\u2019s winners are designers and companies who combine material expertise, technical precision and creative vision\u00a0at the highest level,\u201d said Stefan Rummel, CEO of Messe M\u00fcnchen.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          The awards\u00a0were presented in a total of 10 categories.\u202fNine prizes were determined by the internationally composed expert jury; in one additional category, the public decided following a pre-selection by a renowned watch jury.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
