Tell us what sets National Facets apart in Jaipur’s highly competitive gemstone industry? <\/strong><\/p>\n

We are a Jaipur-based gemstone and jewellery manufacturing house with a legacy spanning more than 45 years. Founded in 1980 with just three craftsmen, we have grown into a team of nearly 500 people across two manufacturing facilities, with offices in Jaipur and New York. What sets us apart is not just the scale of our operations, but our enduring love for coloured gemstones.<\/p>\n

We have been fascinated by the endless diversity found in nature. No two gemstones are ever alike. Even within the same variety, each stone has its own personality\u2014its colour, crystal structure, inclusions and the way it interacts with light. We work with more than 125 varieties of natural gemstones and manage almost every stage in-house\u2014from rough sourcing and custom cutting to carving, polishing, stringing, drilling, and jewellery manufacturing.<\/p>\n

Over the years, we have sourced rough gemstones from across the world and developed specialised expertise in understanding how each material should be approached. Every gemstone has its own characteristics, and every variety demands a different way of thinking, cutting and finishing.<\/p>\n

That constant process of discovery is what keeps this craft so exciting. We don’t simply manufacture gemstones\u2014we spend our lives revealing what nature has already created.<\/p>\n

Which gemstones are currently seeing the strongest demand in India and abroad? <\/strong><\/p>\n

We offer designers an extraordinary palette of colours, textures and forms. In India, we continue to see strong demand for emeralds, rubies, tourmalines and tanzanites, particularly in jewellery that combines timeless appeal with contemporary design.<\/p>\n

There is also growing interest in opals, kunzites, tsavorites and turquoise, that allow retailers to offer greater individuality beyond traditional jewellery.<\/p>\n

Internationally, we are seeing considerable interest in tourmalines, opals, turquoise, chalcedony, moonstone, rock crystal, lapis lazuli, and varieties of gemstones with interesting textures and phenomena.<\/p>\n

Increasingly, designers are choosing gemstones not simply for rarity or value, but for their colour, character, transparency and ability to tell a story.<\/p>\n

One of the greatest privileges of our work is sourcing rough gemstones from different parts of the world. Every shipment carries the geology, colours and character of a different landscape. Every stone asks to be understood before it can be transformed.<\/p>\n

The demand today is less about one universally popular gemstone and more about finding the perfect material that gives a collection its own identity.<\/p>\n

What gemstone cuts and carving styles are trending at present?<\/strong><\/p>\n

We are seeing a clear movement towards gemstones that feel sculptural and expressive. Alongside classic faceted cuts and cabochons, designers are veering towards fluted forms, carved elements, melon cuts, intaglios, frosted finishes, geometric silhouettes and stone-on-stone constructions.<\/p>\n

There is also growing interest in combining different finishes within the same gemstone\u2014polished against frosted, transparent against opaque, or carved surfaces alongside faceted sections. These details create depth and individuality.<\/p>\n

Bespoke cutting has become one of the defining aspects of fine jewellery today. A custom-cut gemstone often becomes the starting point of an entire collection. We regularly receive sketches, CAD files, reference images or simply a creative vision from designers around the world. Our role is not only to execute the design but also to guide it through the realities of the gemstone itself\u2014its colour zoning, crystal direction, durability, thickness and natural structure.<\/p>\n

For us, gemstone cutting is a creative conversation between the artisan and the stone. A designer may begin with an idea, but the gemstone always has a voice in determining the final outcome.<\/p>\n

That is what makes coloured gemstones endlessly fascinating. Even after working with millions of stones over four decades, no two days\u2014and no two gemstones\u2014are ever the same.<\/p>\n

Beyond loose gemstones, National Facets also manufactures jewellery. How has this vertical evolved? <\/strong><\/p>\n

Our jewellery vertical evolved naturally from our long association with designers. Many clients were sourcing gemstones from us while coordinating separately with CAD designers, gold manufacturers, setters and quality-control teams. They wanted a more integrated process where the gemstone and the jewellery could be developed together rather than independently.<\/p>\n

This led to the creation of National Facets Design Studio, that offers end-to-end jewellery manufacturing in 14- and 18-karat gold using natural gemstones and diamonds.<\/p>\n

Our focus is on design-led jewellery rather than mass production. We are developing one-of-a-kind and limited-edition collections across earrings, rings, necklaces, pendants, bracelets and brooches, alongside customised and private-label programmes for retailers and designers.<\/p>\n

For us, jewellery doesn’t begin with metal\u2014it begins with falling in love with the gemstone. When the gemstone is considered from the very beginning, every aspect of the design\u2014the cut, dimensions, finish and setting\u2014can evolve together, resulting in jewellery that feels more original and meaningful.<\/p>\n

Which international and domestic markets are most significant for your company? <\/strong><\/p>\n

The US continues to be one of our strongest markets, particularly among independent designers, fine-jewellery brands and retailers looking for distinctive gemstones and dependable development support.<\/p>\n

Europe remains equally important because many\u00a0 designers there approach gemstones through the lens of craftsmanship, material exploration and artistic expression. We also work extensively with customers across the Middle East and Asia.<\/p>\n

We are also seeing encouraging interest from Latin America and Southeast Asia, regions with a natural appreciation for colour and expressive jewellery.<\/p>\n

Working with designers from different cultures constantly broadens our own perspective. The same gemstone can inspire entirely different interpretations depending on where the designer comes from, and that exchange of ideas continues to push us creatively.<\/p>\n

India, too, has become an exciting growth market for our jewellery division. A new generation of retailers is embracing coloured gemstones to create collections that offer individuality, stronger storytelling and greater differentiation.<\/p>\n

As an exhibitor at IIJS, what are your expectations from this year’s show? <\/strong><\/p>\n

IIJS has always been more than an exhibition for us\u2014it is where the future direction of the industry begins to emerge.<\/p>\n

This year, we are looking forward to strengthening our domestic presence while showcasing the breadth of our gemstone and jewellery capabilities. Alongside customised cuts, carved gemstones and design-led jewellery, we hope to demonstrate how coloured gemstones can open entirely new creative possibilities for retailers.<\/p>\n

We also want to simplify coloured gemstones for the trade. Through better product information, design support, transparent manufacturing systems and collaborative product development, we aim to make coloured-gemstone jewellery easier to understand, easier to source and easier to sell.<\/p>\n

Most importantly, every exhibition is an opportunity to introduce more people to the remarkable world of coloured gemstones. Once someone truly discovers colour, it changes the way they think about jewellery.<\/p>\n

How has participating in the show contributed to your business growth?<\/strong><\/p>\n

IIJS has contributed to our growth in ways that go far beyond generating business. It has helped us understand the Indian jewellery market at a much deeper level.<\/p>\n

The show brings together buyers from every part of India, each with different cultural influences, customer expectations and preferences in gemstones. Over the years, we have learned that certain regions are more comfortable with particular colours, stones, cuts and design styles. These conversations have given us invaluable insight into how different Indian markets perceive and respond to coloured gemstones.<\/p>\n

IIJS has also connected us with buyers who are looking for genuine differentiation\u2014people who are highly detail-oriented, curious about new materials and constantly challenge us to improve. Their questions and feedback have pushed us to make coloured gemstones easier to understand, appreciate and sell to the Indian consumer.<\/p>\n

Just as importantly, every edition of IIJS helps us understand changing consumer behaviour, regional preferences, retail challenges and emerging design directions. People often ask us whether, after 45 years, gemstones ever become routine. The answer is never.<\/p>\n

Every morning brings a different piece of rough to the table. It may have travelled from the mountains of Columbia, the mines of Brazil, the valleys of Zambia or the landscapes of Madagascar. Hidden within that rough is a colour, a pattern and a possibility that no one has seen before.<\/p>\n

Some stones ask to become elegant cabochons. Others reveal dramatic carvings. Some surprise us with extraordinary colour once they are cut, while others teach us patience because they refuse to behave as expected.<\/p>\n

That constant sense of discovery is what keeps us passionate about this craft.<\/p>\n

Jaipur possesses an extraordinary legacy of gemstone knowledge. It lives not only in workshops and factories, but in the hands, eyes and instincts of artisans who have dedicated their lives to understanding stone.
