Exports reached US$478.78 million in FY2025-26, up 19.72% from US$399.93 million in the previous financial year, according to GJEPC data. Gold jewellery exports rose 18.69% to US$159.53 million, while exports of worked coloured gemstones more than doubled, increasing 109.05% to US$84.5 million. Cut and polished diamond exports grew 4.69% to US$204.07 million.

Despite this growth, opportunities remain for Indian manufacturers to expand their share of the French market. France imported US$12.61 billion in gem and jewellery products in FY2025-26, with India accounting for 3.8% of the total. India ranked second among France’s suppliers of cut and polished diamonds, fifth in gold jewellery and first in coloured gemstones, highlighting its established position and the potential to expand across product categories.

The India–France engagement began on 13 October with a briefing at the Embassy of India in Paris titled “The French Market & the Marketing of Desirability”. The session explored French consumer expectations, luxury brand positioning, sustainability and traceability, and strategies for strengthening the international positioning of Indian jewellery brands.

The briefing featured Anish Kumar Singh, GJEPC Representative for France and Founder of Bhartiya Paris Club; Dr. Marta Marcheva, Executive Director of Institut Sup de Luxe; and Céline Dassonville, CEO of ethiwork. The speakers discussed the importance of understanding local market dynamics, developing distinctive brand narratives and building long-term relationships with French luxury businesses.

Singh outlined a phased approach to India–France collaboration, beginning with buyer-seller meetings and targeted business engagements, followed by capability building and, over the longer term, the development of globally recognised Indian jewellery brands. Marcheva shared insights into luxury strategy, marketing and brand desirability, while Dassonville addressed brand communication, sustainability and traceability.

Addressing the India–France opportunity, Shaunak Parikh, Vice Chairman, GJEPC, said: “We have come to Paris not only to present the capabilities of Indian jewellers, but also to learn. France has built a remarkable reputation for branding, design and presenting creative work to the world. We can learn from French maisons how to build brands, tell compelling stories and develop lasting consumer relationships. India brings scale, technical expertise, skilled artisans and the ability to turn ideas into finely crafted products.”

Parikh also highlighted the scope for collaboration between the two countries, combining French design sensibilities with Indian craftsmanship to develop jewellery and collections for international consumers. The recently signed India–EU trade agreement, he said, could provide fresh momentum to commercial ties, with businesses playing a key role in turning the framework into lasting partnerships.

The programme continues with market visits, business-to-business meetings, knowledge sessions and networking, culminating in the Buyer-Seller Meet on 15 October at the Marriott Champs-Élysées in Paris.

The 17 participating companies are Asian Star Co. Ltd, DNJ Creation LLP, Fine Jewellery Manufacturing Ltd, Goldstar Jewellery Pvt. Ltd., KGK Creations (India) Private Limited, Malya Jewel Craft, Neysa Jewellery Ltd, NTS Navrattan Jewellers Pvt. Ltd., Patdiam Jewelry Ltd, Priority Jewels Limited, Renaissance Global Ltd, S. Vinod Kumar Diamonds Pvt. Ltd., Sunjewels Private Limited, Supergems Jewellery, Tanvirkumar & Company, UniDesign Jewel and Walking Tree Atelier Pvt. Ltd.

As part of GJEPC’s Global Market Access Mission, the initiative seeks to connect India’s jewellery manufacturing and design capabilities with France’s established luxury ecosystem. The focus is on building relationships that extend beyond conventional buyer-supplier arrangements to include design development, knowledge exchange and long-term commercial collaboration.

GJEPC has brought 17 Indian jewellery manufacturers to Paris for a three-day programme aimed at developing business partnerships with French buyers, retailers, designers and luxury brands.
