Her latest Bijou Bijou collection adopts the plique-\u00e0-jour, (French for \u201cletting in daylight\u201d) enamelling in her contemporary 18-karat gold creations enhanced with gemstones such as kunzite, turquoise, fire opal, coral, and mother-of-pearl, to name a few.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 inherent translucency. The technique, popularly used during the Art Nouveau period in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, requires mastery to enamel curves in a piece of jewellery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sunita Shekhawat talks about her labour of love:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tell us about the sudden interest in the plique-<em>\u00e0<\/em>-jour technique?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have grown up travelling the length and breadth of India, thanks to my father who served in the Indian Air Force. This exposed me to different cultures and arts. I have always been open to exploring different styles for creating my collections. famous for lines enhanced with Jaipur meenakari work. Was it difficult for your artisans to master this form of enamelling?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes. Our meenakari karigars have been working on the plique-\u00e0-jour technique for the past two years. They have beautified the diaphanous enamelling technique with colours and patterns of our traditional ones in an exceptional way. Plique-\u00e0-Jour is fragile because of technical complexities; we need to revive such arts or else, it can easily be lost in the pages of history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bijou Bijou is our effort to help\u00a0 \u2018letting the light in\u2019 by continuing to invest in broadening our horizons and those of our karigars\u2019 by seeking new learnings, even as we stay rooted in our beloved Jaipur.
