Christie’s\u00a0Paris\u00a0Joaillerie Online Auction\u00a0designers presented by Second Petale showcase the unusual works of handpicked jewellery designers.<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Arina Pouzoullic launched her jewellery gallery, Second Petale, in 2019 as a digital artistic space to showcase curated works of art. The founder and curator, who\u2019s always been passionate about jewellery and art, aims to promote intimate groups of \u201cunknown and emerging designers as well as a notorious artist\u201d through high profile events, exhibitions and collaborations. \u201cThe role of the curator is to create opportunities for the audience and designers, while being a bridge that connects the collector and the artist. I like to create opportunities in ways that are innovative and beneficial to everyone involved; the initiative Jewellery Talent of Today is one such example,\u201d she explains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second Petale has teamed up with Christie\u2019s Paris Joaillerie for the online auction that runs till July 5. \u201cThe international mega institution Christie\u2019s seemed the perfect medium for the initiative. We worked hand-in-hand with the team in Paris to present this unprecedented initiative. I am grateful to Violaine d \u0301Astorg, Head of Jewellery and Mafalda Chenu, Jewellery Specialist, for making this possible,\u201d adds Arina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her tribe includes Kayo Saito, Chiara Passoni, Sarah Ho, Tomasz Donocik, and Ulla and Martin Kaufmann \u2013 designers noted for their unique designs and artistic identity. \u201cThey focus on craftsmanship to create timeless and relevant designs beyond geographical boundaries,\u201d she explains. The audience, observes Arina, wants to see things they\u2019ve never seen before and learn more about art. \u201cBrands, like any business, major or emerging, need a relevant, qualitative clientele and broad exposure. So, when you show your art to a global audience, it is an unprecedented opportunity for the artist. This is an important opportunity because it is not only about the customer value proposition but also about the industry\u2019s value proposition. Jewellery Art is being promoted, while designers get the international spotlight and endorsement of their artistic rating in a global art market,\u201d she elaborates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tomasz had always wanted to showcase his pieces through art galleries and auction houses like Christie\u2019s. \u201cArina and Christie\u2019s asked us to only make one piece for the auction. Since it is a collective exhibition of jewellery talents, all pieces had to be curated and had to work well together. My emerald and diamond Cosmic drop earrings seem the perfect fit; Art Deco with a modern twist to bedazzle the wearer,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Emerald and Diamonds Drop earrings by Tomasz Donocik are specially made for the Jewellery Talent of Today showcase. The 18-karat white gold, black rhodium-plated, diamonds and emeralds feature detachable drops; the studs can be worn on their own.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Kayo\u2019s unique sculptural jewellery references a hybrid of Japanese and European aesthetics and techniques. The Primavera Necklace, forged in 18-karat gold, is an artful composition tricked out in delicate textured gold leaves, evocative of Spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chiara, on the other hand, veers towards eclectic material such as wood, precious stones, mammoth tusk, prehistoric shark teeth and horns for her design. The water buffalo Horn Cuffs from the Italian jeweller\u2019s collection, Africa Queen, are bold and stylish pieces that engage you in a \u201cfashion forward\u201d dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With their unparalleled skills and techniques, Ulla and Martin Kaufmann deftly explore boundaries in wearables informed by elegant lines, unique shapes and volume. Their Tira bracelets, in 18-karat gold, form part of the Jewellery Talent of Today showcase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ulla and Martin Kaufmann note, \u201cWe feel that bracelets are equally appropriate for men and woman. The three-dimensional nature of the hoop emphasises the personality of the person wearing it. The act of slipping a bracelet onto your wrist creates a close relationship between the piece and the body, and this connection grows stronger through movement. When you wear a bracelet, you perceive it as a whole object: you can see it, observe it on your arm, feel it move and see the changes. A bracelet is perfect for a first encounter with jewellery.\u201d<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Sarah Ho, who has worked with auction houses before, loved the idea of promoting contemporary jewellery design at the prestigious auction. \u201cIt sounded perfect. Second Petale, Christie\u2019s and I share the same values of design and craftsmanship in high jewellery; so, to work together has been wonderful,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A celebration of life and joy, Sarah Ho designed the Emerald Daisy earrings in response to escaping the restrictions imposed on our lives over the last couple of years. The cabochon emeralds were rescued from a piece of pre-loved jewellery and given a new lease of life amid an array of colourful gems. Opal beads highlighted with martini-set rubies, sapphires and emeralds to add even more colour to the radiant design with diamonds nestling between the beads. The gems are set in 18-karat recycled rose gold.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Her Emerald Daisy earrings, designed and produced during the lockdown, are part of the Christie\u2019s lot. These earrings \u2013 made almost entirely from \u201crepurposed\u201d stones \u2013 feature emeralds and opals. \u201cBoth the gems that came from two different places are given a new lease of life. This \u201crecycling\u201d is just one facet of my sustainable and responsible practice for creating my jewellery designs,\u201d says the Monaco-based jeweller. \u201cWe are promoting the auction to our online followers and clients and anticipate that the interest will continue to gain momentum until the auction hammer finally falls.\u201d Sarah has an eye for colour and finds inspiration in intricate details seen in embroidery and beading. \u201cHer Emerald Daisy earrings are a fabulous dance of 122 gems,\u201d notes Arina. \u201cThis dedicated initiative for independent contemporary designers is the first of its kind at Christie\u2019s and I hope it continues,\u201d adds Sarah.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
