Technological Aspects of Man Made Diamonds Discussed at IGJME Seminars

Two seminars held on the second day of the IGJME turned the spotlight on the technological aspects of man made diamonds without discussing other aspects related to the business of this new segment of the gem and jewellery industry.


The first presentation was by Dr. Joe C.C. Yuan, President, Solstar International Inc., USA and dealt with the Technology of Producing and Identifying of MPCVD (Microwave Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition) Single, Polycrystalline Diamonds.


A veteran researcher into the subject, Dr Yuan discussed the techniques by which these stones are manufactured and how to identify and differentiate them from natural diamonds. The presentation was fairly technical and was followed by a brief discussion.


The second seminar was focused on Lab Grown Diamonds - Growing & Manufacturing and was presented by Bakul Patel, Director, New Diamond Era, Surat, and one of the pioneers in this field in india.


His presentation also discussed the techniques and technology behind manufacturing of synthetic diamonds in a lab, and touched upon the possibiities of them being manufactured on a mass scale. The presentation was followed by a small panel discussion and Q & A.
