The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council aims to build the India Gem and Jewellery Machinery Expo (IGJME) into the world’s premier jewellery show by 2016, Nirav Bhansali, Convener National Exhibitions, GJEPC, said while speaking to gjepc.org on Day One of the show.
“We want to build on the success we have achieved in enhancing international participation this year,” he said, elaborating that the Council planned to focus on “getting manufacturers of the latest machines and technology for the G & J industry from countries like Italy, Germany, China, USA and others to participate.”
With India’s gem and jewellery industry already being the leading consumer of advanced diamond manufacturing technology, and one of the largest consumers in jewellery manufacturing sector too, the IGJME is the perfect platform for international suppliers to connect with Indian manufacturers.
There are Indian machinery companies also producing world class products, and IGJME will help the sector grow and enhance its capabilities through interaction with leading international players, he said. “Technological research and development within the country will get a boost through such shows,” Bhansali elaborated, giving the example of an Indian company which was exhibiting a machine for counting diamonds at the show. “Such products were only available in the international markets earlier,” he explained.
“We are also making special efforts to get feedback from the exhibitors and further improve arrangements and infrastructure at the show,” the convener said, citing how this year they had reduced the depth of the stalls as per suggestions from manufacturers that machinery displays required more length and less depth as compared to the standard jewellery exhibition stalls.
The Council plans to continue holding the show in Surat itself over the next few years, though it has also received suggestions that it should be held in different manufacturing centres each year. Bhansali said that in future similar shows could also be organised in Jaipur, Coimbatore and Mumbai.
Bhansali clarified that the IGJME is not a substitute for the Machinery section of the IIJS which, he said, was an important component of the main show, where participating jewellers got an opportunity to see latest developments.
