A 3.98 ct rectangular-cut Fancy Vivid Blue Diamond by Moussaieff emerged as the top lot of of Christie’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels Spring Sale held recently.

The diamond set in a ring  within a cushion and triangular-shaped pink diamond surround, to the baguette-cut pink diamond bifurcated half-hoop, and mounted in gold, was purchased by Harry Winston CEO Nayla Hayek for US$ 8,879,821. Commented  Hayek   immediately after the auction: “I am so happy to have been able to secure this rare blue diamond which will take a prominent place in our important collection of top gems”. 

Taking in a total collection of  US$ 79,778,540, this season’s sale included jewels  from iconic Hong Kong Jewellery Designers, Adrian Cheng, Cindy Chao, Edmond Chin and Michelle Ong. This particular segment sold 100% said Christie’s.

Vickie Sek, Deputy Chairman Asia & Director of Christie’s Asia Jewellery department, commented: “This is the first time an international auction house in Asia has collaborated with such an impressive line-up of world-renowned designers. We saw intense bidding in room, by phone and via Christie’s LIVE, for all of the jewels created by these four iconic artists. The sale attracted top prices for jadeite and culminated in a 4ct gem blue diamond purchased for US$ 9m by Harry Winston CEO Nayla Hayek”.

Moreover, the auction house revealed,  25% of lots sold at auction exceeded their High Estimate.

Amongst the other notable pieces was the   emerald and diamond Palmette necklace by Edmond Chin for the House of Boghossian. This exquisitely crafted piece  achieved a world auction record US$ 6 million  for a selection of no oil Colombian emeralds.
