ALROSA Recovers Heart-Shaped Diamond at its Udachnaya Mine Just Prior to Valentine’s Day

ALROSA announced yesterday, on Valentine’s Day, the recovery of a heart-shaped rough diamond from its Udachnaya kimberlite pipe in Yakutia.

The diamond, weighing 65.7 carats, was found on January 23, 2019. “The diamond is endowed with high-quality characteristics,” pronounced ALRORA. “According to expert estimates, it is aged more than 300 million years.”

Though recovered prior to Valentine’s Day, it could be considered as special gift of nature.

“Diamonds of a distinctive shape that resemble some object or symbol are extremely rare in nature,” explained Evgeny Agureev, Member of the Management Board, and Director of the United Selling Organization at ALROSA. “Most rough diamonds are octahedron-shaped or do not have a particular shape at all. The appearance of a heart-shaped rough diamond, especially on the eve of Valentine's Day, seems to be a symbolic gift of nature not only to our company, but also to all loving couples.”

The heart-shaped diamond is currently at the United Selling Organization at ALROSA for detailed examination and evaluation.

ALROSA has also recovered unusual stones earlier, the Company recalls. “In the summer of 2018, during the World Cup, ALROSA presented a rough diamond in the shape of a soccer ball, and for Halloween, a diamond in the shape of a skull,” the Company recounted.
