ALROSA’s Total Revenue for May 2017 at US$ 472.1 Mn, Up by 33%

For the month of May 2017, PJSC ALROSA reported total diamond sales amounting to US$ 472.1 million; an increase of 33% y-o-y.

Of this, revenue from rough diamond sales amounted to US$ 467.6 million; and polished diamond sales accounted for US$ 4.5 million.

In the five-month period from January-May 2017, ALROSA’s total rough and polished diamond sales exceeded US$ 2.13 billion – 5% lower than sales for the same five-month period in 2016. In the first five months of this year rough diamonds revenue amounted to US$ 2.09 billion; and polished diamonds sales stood at US$ 44.3 million.

Referring to the 5%  reduction y-o-y in the value of  diamonds sold in the January-May period this year, ALROSA Vice President Yury Okoemov noted  that in early  2016 the Company sold a substantial part of high-priced rough diamonds from previously accumulated stocks. He explained that this year, the share of small-size, inexpensive rough diamonds in the Company’s total sales for the period was higher. He also pointed out that there was “a revival of demand for inexpensive rough diamonds in India, which showed a noticeable slowdown late last year as a result of a monetary reform in that country”.
