Gem Diamonds Receives a Boost with the Recovery of a 114-Carat Diamond at Letšeng

Gem Diamonds Limited recently recovered a 114 carat, D colour Type II diamond of exceptional quality from its Letšeng mine in Lesotho, the Company announced recently.

Known for its large, top colour, exceptional white diamonds, which, the Company says, makes it “the highest dollar per carat kimberlite diamond mine in the world”, Letšeng has been the source of four of the 20 largest gem-quality white diamonds ever recovered since Gem Diamonds acquired the mine in 2006.

However, as reported earlier, last year saw fewer large diamond finds with the Company recovering only five stones of 100+ carats – which is less than half the number of such diamonds recovered in the previous year. Hence, the latest recovery comes as a boost for the Company.

“Given the paucity of large, high-value recoveries in recent months, we believe this recovery can precede a return to form for Gem,” Kieron Hodgson, an analyst at Panmure Gordon & Co in London, has been quoted as saying in media reports.
