GIA to Offer Live Demos of iD100TM at Baselworld, First Display of Synthetic Detector in Europe

Gemological Institute of America (GIA) will offer live demonstrations of its GIA iD100TM gem testing device that distinguishes natural diamonds from synthetics and diamond simulants, at its stall at Baselworld. The show runs from March 22-27, 2018. This is the first time that the device will be demonstrated at a trade show in Europe.

This device uses advanced spectroscopic technology to distinguish natural diamonds from synthetic (HPHT and CVD) diamonds and diamond simulants in the colorless to near-colorless range, mounted and loose, rough and cut, in sizes starting from 0.9 millimeters in diameter, GIA reported.

Additionally, GIA laboratory coloured stone services are available on-site during the show, along with information about other laboratory services, GIA education, alumni member benefits, GIA’s Retailer Support Program and more.

The lab will also distribute complimentary copies of The Passion of Colored Stones – its new 48-page book covering informative topics like coloured stone quality factors, geographical sources and treatment information with beautiful images for 18 of the most popular coloured stones, at the show. Copies will be available while supplies last, GIA said.
