GII Makes Presentation on Advanced Version of Q-CHK Synthetic Detector at JCK Event

At a breakfast meeting held during the ongoing JCK, Las Vegas show, Anup Zaveri, Trustee of Gemmological Institute of India (GII), Mumbai made a presentation to a gathering of diamantaires on the new advanced version of the Q-CHK Instrument which allows for easy detection of both CVD and HPHT Synthetics.

The machine has been developed by GII, Mumbai and Arotek Scientific Instruments Pvt. Ltd. and makes the checking process easy and fast, GII said in a release. Zaveri said that Q-CHK is a very versatile instrument and does not require experience or gemmological expertise to operate. It can work with both loose diamonds, either in transparent bags or in the sample plate, as well as diamonds mounted in studded jewellery and is available at a very affordable price to the global industry.

Explaining the workings of the machine, Zaveri said that it is a luminescence-based instrument with sample holder size 11cm x 6cm for quick detection of synthetic diamonds (HPHT & CVD) in near colourless to tinted colours (not fancy colours). The machine can identify any size of diamonds starting from -2 or half cent onwards, scanning about 1,200 stones in a matter of 7 to 21 seconds. Because it is simple and easy to operate, it is very useful as a quick screening facility for traders dealing with large amount of stones or for jewellery stores to do a rapid check for synthetics, even if studded in jewellery.
