The Chairman and senior representatives of The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) interacted last week with a 20-member delegation from the Dongguan Hardware Jewellery Industry Association, Dongguan, China during their visit to Jaipur.

The delegation from China, led by Association President Mr Daniel, mainly comprised manufacturers and traders in artificial jewellery and machinery suppliers.

Welcoming the delegation, GJEPC Chairman, Pramod Kumar Agrawal spoke about the numerous initiatives being taken by GJEPC for promotion of international trade. He highlighted the recent announcement by the Indian Government with regard to relaxation in certain taxes applicable to the sector and to new manufacturing businesses. He stated that now India is the most suitable venue for manufacturing and export in the entire Asian region and emphasised that joint ventures should be formed in India for tapping both the Indian and overseas market. He invited Chinese manufacturers to come and set up 100% owned factories in any of the jewellery manufacturing hubs of India, and suggested that the visitors could hold one-to-one meetings with Indian companies to discuss collaboration between Indian and Chinese manufacturers.

Convener of GJEPC’s Silver Jewellery Panel, Ram Babu Gupta, Convener of Coloured Gemstones Panel, Vijay Kedia and other Regional Committee members also participated in the discussions.

The leader of Chinese delegation, Mr. Daniel thanked GJEPC for its hospitality and said that there was good scope for cooperation between the businessmen of his association and Indian businessmen present at the meeting.

A vote of thanks was given by Vijay Kedia. He requested the visiting delegation to impress upon their Government the need to reduce duty on Indian gems and jewellery imports. 

Members of the delegation also visited some of the gems and jewellery manufacturing units in Sitapura Industrial Area, Jaipur, including both those in the DTA as well as some in the SEZ.
