GJEPC Hosts Jewellery Buyer-Seller Meet for SAARC-Iran Delegations

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council recently organised a Jewellery Buyer-Seller meet to help Indian manufacturers establish business ties with buyers from different countries under the SAARC region and from Iran. The event took place at J.W. Marriott, Aero City in Delhi from 19th to 21st May 2016.

Organised on the recommendation of the Ministry of Commerce, this first-ever meet between the gem and jewellery industries from these countries, saw the participation of 51 Indian manufacturers across different product segments and 61 international buyer companies from Bahrain, Bangladesh, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia.

This new initiative from the Council is aimed at creating a gateway for Indian companies to a huge potential market, while also providing a further boost the bilateral investment and trade opportunities. 

The three-day event was a mix of one-to-one meetings and free interactions, as well as informal evening get-togethers to further strengthen emerging business ties.

The BSM was inaugurated by Chief Guest Shri  Manoj Dwivedi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Guest of Honour Mr. Rajkamal, Director, Ministry of Commerce. Other dignitaries who attended were H.E. Mr. Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury, Deputy High Commissioner, Bangladesh; Mr. Muhammad Irfan Tarar, Minister (Trade), Pakistan High Commission & Dr. Nahid Rashid, Counsellor (Commerce), Bangladesh High Commission.

Shri Anil Sankhwal, Chairman North Region & Co-Convener, International Exhibition Sub-Committee and Sridhar Iyengar, Director – International Events, GJEPC addressed the delegates at the Welcome Dinner.

While the first one-and-a-half days were devoted to Business Match-making sessions between the exhibitors and buyers, taking into consideration the product interest of   both the parties, the rest of the event was in the format of an open exhibition. On an average, each exhibitor company met five buyer companies each day.
