The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council conducted a Seminar for the trade on Oct 3, 2019 at Convention  Hall, Bharat Diamond Bourse, Bandra, Mumbai, to discuss issues concerning pre-notice consultation / show cause cum demand notice for non levy of customs duty re-imported received by some members of the trade on the grounds that they have wrongly availed benefit under Sr.No.5 of Notification 46/2017 dated 30.6.17.

The seminar was specifically for the benefit of the members who have not yet submitted their replies to such Pre-notice Consultation / Show Cause Cum Demand Notice and Personal Hearing orders.

Dr. Jitarani, Asst Director Trade Policy, GJEPC, addressed the attendees and gave a presentation on the procedure that could be followed in responding to this issue. It was followed by a talk by trade consultant Mr. Iqbal who explained to the audience how they could reply and shared a sample draft letter, which has been provided by the GJEPC. Ashok Gajera, Regional Chairman, Western Region also addressed the gathering.

The speakers also replied to queries raised by the members and helped them understand the steps to be followed while submitting their reply to the concerned Customs Department.

Nearly 400 members of the trade were present for the meeting.
