GJEPC Panel Holds Interactive Sessions with Students of Auro University; Highlights Career Opportunities in Industry

A panel of prominent industry professionals addressed the students of Auro University, Surat, highlighting the wide variety of career opportunities that a major industry like gems and jewellery offers during an interactive session organised on July 23 by The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council’s (GJEPC) Surat regional office. Over 100 students from different fields like Management and IT, attended the presentations.

Presentations by Janak Mistry from Lexus Softmach and Samir Joshi, ED, IDI covered recent developments in the industry and some of the future potential growth areas where trained personnel would be required.

Mistry spoke about various aspects of diamond manufacturing, focusing on how Artificial Intelligence and IT will play a key role in sorting, grading and polishing diamonds in the not-so-distant future. There will be strong demand for talented youth with new skills in IT and computer science as the industry adapts to these changing trends, he said.

He emphasized that currently, and in the days to come, marketing will also play a crucial role and the demand for experts in this field is likely to grow.

Joshi presented an overview of the industry, highlighting some of the lesser-known facts and figures related to its operations in both the domestic as well global markets. He elaborated on the future trends and emerging career opportunities in the industry, focusing on the enormous potential for growth in the jewellery sector.
