GJEPC’s Expert Panel Highlights Opportunities in Industry at Launch of New G&J Institute at C.U. Shah University in Gujarat

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council’s (GJEPC) Surat regional office organised an interactive session with students to mark the launch of a new institute, International Institute of Gems & Jewellery Technology and Research (IIGJTR) at the C U Shah University, Wadhwan in Gujarat.

The session, held under the banner of GJEPC’s "Pratibha - Bridging the Gap" initiative.

on July 18, 2019, was addressed by industry leaders Janak Mistry from Lexus (through video conferencing), Kamlesh Vyas, MD, Mars Group and Samir Joshi, Executive Director, IDI. Over 300 students and others from the institute attended.

The panellists spoke about the various career opportunities in the G&J industry, highlighting the industry’s potential to absorb talent from any specialization and offer a chance for significant career growth over a period of time. In the discussion that followed, the panellists explained the disruptions and challenges, future growth of industry and the immense opportunities for upcoming fresh talent. They advised students to opt for vocation training along with their regular degree course thus ensuring that they are trained and ready to be absorbed by the industry on the completion of their courses. All the speakers emphasized that students should develop an “attitude to learn” and have a long-term vision to be successful with this sector.  

Dr. Ved Vyas Dwivedi, Provost, C U Shah University encouraged the students to consider this industry as a career option. The University, which launched the new institute during the programme, announced that the first batch for each of the three courses it will be offering – Jewellery Designing Foundation, CAD Matrix and One Year Diploma in Jewellery Designing – will commence from August 15, 2019.

Indian Diamond Institute, Surat and IIGJTR also entered into an MOU to provide training, technical support, guidance and faculty exchange programme.
