Hindi Diwas Observed at GJEPC

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) celebrated Hindi Diwas at a special function held in the Head Office at Mumbai recently. The Council has been playing an important role in the promotion of the official language for many decades.

During the event, the annual prize distribution programme was conducted in the presence of Colin Shah, Vice-Chairman, GJEPC; Anil Virani, Convener, A & F Sub-Committee, GJEPC; Mahesh Vagani, Member BDB; Sabyasachi Ray, ED, GJEPC; Sandeep Sharma, CFO, GJEPC and officials and staff of the Council.

In addition to the winners of various competitions organized throughout the year such as letter writing, syntax, singing etc., who were awarded their prizes, the three winners for the best contribution to the 16th edition of RatnaSanchayika, the Council's annual in house magazine in Hindi were also felicitated.

Speaking on the occasion, Sabyasachi Ray said that Council is following the guidelines and rules provided by the Union Ministry of Commerce & Industry with regard to Official Language. It is distributing all important circulars, notices, newsletters, KP certificates etc to Council members in bilingual format. In addition, various competitions and workshops are being conducted from time to time by the Hindi Department to impart knowledge in Hindi to all. Further, Council officials and staff contribute articles and poems in Hindi the Council's annual in house magazine, RatnaSanchayika.

GJEPC Vice-Chairman Colin Shah said that the Council staff has put in commendable work for the overall development of the industry, and added that he had experienced this first hand while interacting closely with them in an official capacity over the last two years.

He also stated that the Council pays special attention to the problems of the industry and its members, and strives to find solutions as soon as possible. He also commended the effort made to publish various schemes, circulars, notices etc. in Hindi so that they would be easily available to the members. He expressed the hope that the Council would continue to work in a similar manner.

Mahesh Vagani, BDB member said that it is a matter of pride that the Council is making its invaluable contribution towards the spread and usage of the Official Language. Promotion and dissemination of information in Hindi was very important for the industry.

The programme was conducted by the Mithilesh Pandey, Director of the Membership Department of the Council and in-charge of Hindi.
