KP Seeks Auditor for Audit of Central African Republic’s Stockpiled Diamonds

The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) is looking for an auditor to audit the rough diamonds stockpiled by the Central African Republic (CAR) during the period when it was suspended from KP.

CAR was suspended from KP in 2013 and was readmitted earlier this year in May. While CAR was unable to export diamonds in the interim period, it was given the go-ahead for mining operations.

The recently released Communique released post the KP Plenary had also referred to the forthcoming forensic audit, which it had stipulated be carried out under the supervision of the KP Monitoring Team.

It is understood that the audit must be carried out in accordance with the criteria enunciated by KP’s Operational Framework Agreement and Administrative Decision and Annex on the Resumption of Exports from Central African Republic. The aim of the audit is to trace the source of the diamonds and to separate out any conflict diamonds from those lawfully and responsibly mined.

The selected auditor will submit a written report to the KP Monitoring Team. Proposals can be submitted to KP till January 15th by all those desirous of undertaking the task.
