Lucapa Recovers 1,100 Diamonds From a 178 Kg Sample From Brooking Diamond Project in Australia

Lucapa Diamond Company Limited recently announced results of the latest exploration programme at its Brooking Diamond Project located in Western Australia’s West Kimberley region, and within 50km of the Ellendale diamond mine which, until its recent closure, produced more than 50% of the world’s fancy yellow diamonds.

The programme, explained Lucapa, “involved drilling, micro-diamond analysis and an airborne geophysical survey” and was designed “to follow up on the Little Spring Creek (LSC) lamproite discovery hole LSC/DH001 from which 119 micro- and macro-diamonds were recovered from an 87 kg sample of drill core”, as announced in January this year.

The “exceptional results” included the recovery of 1,100 diamonds from a 178 kg sample taken from drill hole LSC/DH002. These included 18 macro-diamonds and 1,082 micro-diamonds.

Further, the Company noted that 11 new lamproite targets were also identified at Brooking, “following interpretation of helicopter borne TDEM survey data”.

The new targets include an approximately seven hectare anomaly identified near Katie’s Bore, where 20 micro-diamonds and high concentrations of lamproite indicator minerals were previously recovered.

Lucapa Managing Director Stephen Wetherall commented: “The latest micro-diamond results from Little Spring Creek are some of the best I have seen in the diamond space.”

He added: “These exceptional results at Brooking underscore the prospectivity for diamond deposits in the Kimberley region of WA, which hosts the world renowned deposits of Argyle and previously Ellendale. We look forward to the next phase of exploration at Brooking with great excitement.”

Lucapa is now considering all available options   in respect of trenching and bulk sampling the Little Spring Creek target to follow up on the “spectacular” micro-diamond results from LSC/DH002 and LSC/DH001, the Company said.

“In addition, Lucapa’s geological team is preparing Programs of Work and Heritage clearances for a new drilling program to test the 11 new lamproite targets identified from the TDEM survey,” Lucapa announced.

Lucapa’s partner (holding 20% share) in Brooking is Leopold Diamond Company Pty Ltd.
