Gem Diamonds has appointed Mazvi Maharasoa as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of the Company, effective from 1 July 2019.

Maharasoa has over 20 years of senior management experience of which 10 years were spent in the mining sector. The highpoint of her career was her appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of Letšeng Diamonds (Pty) Ltd where she served from 2009 to 2017.  Prior to that she was Letšeng’s Resident Director for two years, from 2007 to 2009. 

Maharasoa was also the Founder and President of the Lesotho Chamber of Mines (2016).

Prior to Maharasoa’s involvement in the mining sector, she worked in the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Central Bank of Lesotho, where she was the senior legal counsel for each of these entities, Gem Diamonds divulged.

Maharasoa holds an LLM (International and Commercial Law) ​from the University of Buckingham (UK) (1997). She is currently a Non-Executive Director of Stanlib Lesotho (Pty) Ltd and Intellectual Disabilities and Autism Lesotho. She has also established an advisory firm that specialises in corporate governance practice and advice.
