62nd Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair Ends on High Note

The 62nd edition of the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair ended on a high note for both exhibitors and visitors, the organisers of the show, the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce, Government of Thailand has said. The fair was held from September 7 to 11, 2018 at Challenger Halls 1-3, IMPACT, Muang Thong Thani.

In an official statement, the department reported that a trade value of 2,389.74 million baht was generated at the fair, higher than the initial targets and expectations, as visitors from over 107 countries spent five days interacting with the 914 exhibitors.

Among the overseas visitors, the largest numbers were from India, China, Myanmar, USA and Vietnam.

Highlights of the show included special zones such as The Niche Showcase which highlighted the latest trends in jewellery for niche markets; The New Faces which displayed products manufactured by over 150 Thai SMEs; The Jewellers which presented creative and innovative products from 23 brands that had participated in the Talent Thai and Designers’ Room project; Creative Jewelry which showcased the works of 40 brands along with seminars featuring gems and jewellery design experts, designers and successful jewellery brand owners, and other sections.

Minoru Kodama, Chairman of the Yamanashi Jewelry Association said that they had received orders from Chinese buyers and also has visitors from Italy, UK, France and the Middle East.

Suriyon Sriorathaikul, VP, Beauty Gems, said, “This year, we had more overseas buyers who placed orders with our brand at BGJF62. So it’s been a special edition of the fair, thanks to the continuous support from many government organisations for the gem and jewellery industry in the past few years.”

The current year has been a good for Thai gem and jewellery exports which have risen by 6.93% to nearly US$ 13 billion between January and July 2018. Expressing a strong belief that the trend will continue, Mr Sontirat Sontijirawong, Minister of Commerce said, “MoC is confident that the gems and jewellery industry will see robust growth in the continuing period.”

The 63rd edition of the show will take place from February 20-24, 2019, the organisers announced.
