China’s G&J Imports From India Rise Sharply

China’s imports of diamonds and coloured gemstones from India  have risen by a significant 28.48% over the last fiscal to reach US$ 2.48 billion, according to media reports from China quoting a statement issued by the Indian Consulate in Shanghai. This makes the country, the second largest supplier to the Chinese G&J industry, with a 33.8% share of the market, the official statement was reported to have said.

The Consulate also revealed that during the first quarter of the calendar year, Indian exports of diamonds, gems and stones to China amounted to $558 million. Consul General Prakash Gupta was participating at a road show organised by GJEPC to promote the forthcoming IIJS which will be held in Mumbai in July.

Speaking at the same road show Lin Qiang, President of SDE was reported to have said that his organisation would actively consider participating at the IIJS 2017 with a large delegation from eastern China region.

As reported earlier, GJEPC has organised a number of promotional initiatives to boost the G&J trade with China, including Buyer-Seller Meets and exchange of delegations etc.
