Debswana’s Managing Director Albert Milton Passes Away

Albert Milton, Managing Director, Debswana, the 50/50 joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Botswana and De Beers Group passed away suddenly on Friday August 16, 2019.

De Beers Group expressed its shock and sadness at the sudden death of Milton, who became unwell in Johannesburg on Thursday evening, and was admitted to hospital but passed away early the next morning.

“We extend our deepest condolences to Albert’s family, relatives and friends. Our thoughts are with them at this most difficult time,” De Beers said.

In December 2018, Milton was appointed Managing Director of Debswana -- which he joined in 1992 -- and to the De Beers Group Executive Committee. He had held various positions throughout his career across Debswana’s mining operations as well as in leadership positions.

“He was appointed General Manager of Jwaneng Mine in 2013 and held posts as Project Manager at Venetia Mine in South Africa and as General Manager at Morupule Coal Mine in Botswana from 2008 to 2013,” De Beers recalled.

Lynette Armstrong, Chief Financial Officer, Debswana, is presently serving as Acting Managing Director at Debswana.

A further announcement regarding arrangements for a memorial for Milton will be made in due course, De Beers said.
