Delegation from China’s NGTC Holds Meeting with GJEPC & GII

A six-member delegation of the National Gems & Jewelry Technology Administrative Center (NGTC) visited India, and held a meeting with representatives of The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and the Gemmological Institute of India (GII) on September 6, 2019.

The NGTC delegation included Dr. Taijin Lu, Mr. Ye Zhibin, Ms. Tian Jing, Mr. Shen Lidong, Mr. Chen Hao, Mr. Geng Siyu.

GJEPC was represented by Pramod Kumar Agrawal, Chairman; Sanjay Shah, Convener Diamond Panel Committee (DPC); and Sabayasachi Ray, Executive Director (ED).

GII was represented by its Chairman Bakul Mehta; Anup Zaveri and Mahesh Vaghani.

The tri-partite meeting discussed some important issues related to the diamond industry.

The GII and NGTC had earlier signed a Letter of Intent (LI) to support each other in the fields of research and development and in meeting the challenges of the detection of lab grown diamonds. Today’s meeting also explored the possibility of taking the relationship to the next level by signing an MoU. The relationship between the two bodies goes as far back as 2015, and there have been many interactions since then.

At today’s meeting, it was decided to engage together for the promotion of gems & jewellery industry in China; and NGTC has extended their full support to share all the resources to promote the industry.

GJEPC Chairman suggested that the next meeting be convened in Hong Kong during the forthcoming Hong Kong show to hold further discussions on the proposal.
