GJEPC Chairman & Vice Chairman Inaugurate Medical Camp Organised by MDMA

The Chairman of The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) Pramod Agarwal; and the Vice Chairman Colin Shah, today inaugurated a three-day medical camp being organised by the MDMA at the Bharat Diamond Bourse, Mumbai. The event was also attended  by Anoop Mehta, President, BDB; and industry veteran Navin D. Mehta and other leading members of the diamond industry.

Speaking on the occasion, Agarwal  lauded the event and said that the GJEPC was prepared to provide assistance to the MDMA for such good works in the future, too. He also said that the diamond industry was keenly tackling the challenge of undisclosed synthetics being mixed with, or passed off as, natural diamonds. He indicated that the GJEPC would extend all support to MDMA to ensure  that their members had easy access to synthetics detection machines, so that they could ensure that the diamonds they traded in, were in fact natural diamonds; and, in that context, he  said that GJEPC would install a detection  machine on the MDMA premises.

On his part, Shah said the medical camp was particularly close to his heart as he hailed from a family of doctors. He said that such activities go a long way in restoring the reputation and image of the diamond industry, recently tarnished as a fallout of the alleged bank fraud perpetrated by a few individuals. It would also instil  confidence in the thousands of people who came to the Bourse to  work and trade – thereby hoping to earn a livelihood in a respectable manner. He recalled the days when he himself had entered the diamond industry,  when it was seen as a business in which one could earn a decent  living as well as respect. “Together we can restore that standing of the industry once more,” Shah exhorted.
