GJEPC Interacts with Imitation Jewellery Manufacturers Association (IJMA)

At a recent meeting in Mumbai, The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) held an interactive session with leading members of the Imitation Jewellery Manufacturers Association (IJMA) to understand their issues and concerns in the context of the potential of the sector for export enhancement. 

After a brief introduction by Madhukant Parekh, President IJMA, the discussions were initiated by Dr. Jitarani Udgata, Asst. Director, GJEPC. She briefed the IJMA members on the opportunities in the international market and shared details of potential markets for exports. Nagendra Mehta, Secretary, IJMA spoke about the strengths and weaknesses of the fashion jewellery industry.

Later the members present participated in the discussions, raising various issues and problems they faced when carrying out exports. Deepesh Mehta highlighted problems at airports related to carrying of sample products while leaving the country for overseas visits.

Dr. Jitarani assured the house that GJEPC would take up these matters and asked that representations be sent in writing by the affected parties. She also made a presentation on benefits extended by the MSME ministry as well as the initiatives of GJEPC for artisans such as Parichay Card, Swasthya Ratna and Swasthya Kosh policies, etc. She also assured the members of help in organizing seminars on international trade, export related problems and any other subject related to promotion of export of imitation jewellery.
