The Regional Office, Surat of The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) launched two new training programmes under the series “Kaushalyam” at a function held in the city earlier this week. Technical training for the programmes, related to Diamond Polishing and Jewellery Designing, is being provided by Indian Diamond Institute (IDI), GJEPC’s knowledge partner for Kaushalyam.

The diamond training programme runs for eight weeks, while the jewellery designing programme will be held over four weeks.   

Keval Virani, Member, Regional Committee, Gujarat and Chairman, IDI briefed the candidates on various activities of GJEPC and the main aim of the “Kaushalyam” programme. He said that both skill and knowledge of using advanced technology has become essential in the face of global competition. GJEPC is investing on this front to assure a bright future for young aspirants.

Jilpa Sheth, RD, GJEPC Gujarat announced that a new feature of the Diamond Polishing course was the introduction of polishing of round & fancy diamonds using the ultra-modern Robotic Techniques on “Galahad”. The two weeks of this was sponsored by M/s. Lexus Softmac, Surat.

Utpal Mistry, Director Lexus SoftMac spoke about the importance of the "Galahad" technique in diamond polishing and encouraged participants to take maximum benefit of the training on new advanced technology in the field.

The Diamond Polishing programme is useful for existing members of the workforce who are engaged with planning, operation of Galaxy QC etc. Twenty aspirants from the industry are taking part. The training covers the entire process of polishing of bruted / laser 4P processed  rough  diamonds as well as cutting and polishing of the Crown, Pavilion, Girdle, Facets, etc of a round brilliant cut diamond through Robotic Techniques etc

The Jewellery Designing on Corel Draw is aimed at teaching and expanding designing avenues using the  Corel  Draw  software  through techniques such as overlay, conversion of a manual design to a computerised design, as well as the design representation technique, metal decoration techniques, metal & stone rendering, motif drawing exercise etc., and different types of settings, designing of rings, earrings, pendant sets etc.  Eighteen aspirants from the trade are participating in this programme.
