Indian Diamond Institute Celebrates 37th Convocation-cum-Foundation Day

The Indian Diamond Institute (IDI), Surat celebrated its 37th Convocation-cum-Institute’s Foundation Day at IDI-City Centre, Vesu Campus last week. Diplomas were awarded to 243  students who had completed their courses in the past year and outstanding performers received awards and medals.

Dr. Chandan Chatterjee, Director, The Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, (A Project of Government of Gujarat), Gandhinagar was the Chief Guest. Rupa Dutta, Chairperson, IDI & Economic Advisor, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of Gujarat, Keval Virani, Committee Member, GJEPC, Gujarat Region, Dineshbhai Navadia, President, Surat Diamond Association also gavve away the awards and prizes. Many leading diamond merchants and jewellers from the city were present on the occasion.

Samir Joshi, Acting Executive Director, IDI introduced the guests and listed some of the achievements of the institute. He particularly mentioned the services being provided by the IDI-DDRC (Diamond Detection & Resource Centre), which was recently launched by the GJEPC and IDI to help small and medium diamond traders, manufacturers and jewellers screen diamond parcels for detection of possible undisclosed synthetic diamonds at an affordable rate.

Smt. Dutta congratulated all the successful students for achieving an important milestone. She said she was particularly pleased to see a significant number of girls among the diploma holders.  Adding that IDI has trained more than 30,000 persons in the last three decades, she requested the trade to avail of the services and infrastructure of the institute.

Dr. Chatterjee too congratulated the students and talked about the objective and mission of the CED.  He encouraged students to consider becoming entrepreneurs, thus creating more employment. He suggested that they could avail of the benefits of the various schemes of the state government.

Dineshbhai Navadia advised the students not to take short cuts in business as these may give name, fame and money but will not last long. He added that ethical business was crucial for long-term success.
