REVATHI KANT, Titan’s Chief Design Officer, shares the design ethos behind Zoya’s latest ALIVE collection, which underscores the power of intricate craftsmanship and signature custom-cut gems to mimic the wild beauty of blooms.
Zoya, the high-end jewellery atelier from the House of Tata, recently introduced its signature collection, ALIVE, inspired by the untamed beauty of wildflowers. The event was graced by Zoya’s brand ambassador, Sonam Kapoor, and Titan’s Chief Design Officer, Revathi Kant.
The hero of the collection is the Zoya Bloom Cut®, a signature gemstone cut that took almost one year of meticulous craftsmanship to realise it to the required look. The cut drew inspiration from the spiral movement of a blossoming bud that captures the essence of life unfolding.
The Maison’s distinctive design language is achieved through a vivid palette of carefully sourced gemstones. The infusion of champagne diamonds adds a touch of timeless elegance. Unexpected pairings delight—lemon yellow quartz with Swiss blue topaz, golden citrine, green tsavorites, lilac amethyst —harmonised with selected peripheral stones, bringing each masterpiece to life. Intricate techniques, including fretwork, structural links, and woven mesh, interlace with vibrant gemstone arrangements, forming a colourful bouquet that is understated yet luminous.
vathi Kant, Titan Chief Design Officer, elaborated on the ALIVE collection with Solitaire International:
Can you share the creative process behind designing these pieces and how you ensure each piece embodies the essence of nature?
Inspired by the untamed beauty of wildflowers, the vibrant ALIVE collection radiates optimism, offering a poetic homage to the Zoya woman, who is free-spirited, resilient, and graceful. The collection is a metaphor for her courage and gentle strength: wherever she stands, she blossoms.
Tell us more about the Bloom cut® that took almost one year to complete. Which gemstones were used featuring this cut?
At Zoya, colour is not merely an element—it’s our muse. Innovating with fresh and unexpected colour combinations and gemstones in the ALIVE collection breaks new ground in jewellery design, a formidable challenge that pushes boundaries to achieve the seemingly impossible, while preserving the signature grace and timeless luxury that Zoya is known for.
We have used unusual combinations of gemstones like . lemon yellow quartz with Swiss blue topaz, golden citrine, green tsavorites, lilac amethyst.
As a design house, it has been a pleasure to create something so fresh and vibrant and, in many ways, redefine the category of fine jewellery.
As consumer preferences evolve, how does the ALIVE collection cater to their desire for unique, meaningful jewellery while staying true to Zoya’s heritage of quality and elegance?
Today, jewellery is no longer meant to be tucked away in lockers; it’s about being worn. People seek pieces that are not only unique and differentiated, but that also have personal meaning. At Zoya, we like to call it ‘wearable art’. Each creation tells a rich story and opens up an entire narrative for the wearer to share.
This shift has allowed us to experiment innovatively, even with precious jewellery, something that wasn’t as common a decade ago when jewellery was often viewed more as an investment, with a focus on traditional, safer choices. The desire for wearable, expressive jewellery has significantly changed that perspective, giving us the freedom to push boundaries in design while staying true to our craft.
