Meenakari Muse

NITHYASRI SRIDHAR, GRT JEWELLERS PVT. LTD.

The contemporary gold loop earrings draw inspiration from the ornate Archer’s thumb rings traditionally worn by Mughal royalty. The curved design of the earrings mimics the courtly rings, reimagined as Möbius strips symbolising timelessness. Portrait-cut emeralds and enamelled floral motifs in pastel shades lend vibrancy , while vine-like patterns, articulated with jaali work and close-set emeralds, further accentuate the curvy form. The centre of attention are the two emerald beads featuring carved floral designs and royal portraits, adding a touch of power and opulence to this striking pair of earrings, highlighting the fusion of Mughal craftsmanship and modern design.

Nithyasri, what was your first reaction when you found out you made it to the final round? Did you celebrate in any special way?

“When I found out I had made it to the final round, I was overwhelmed with excitement and pride—it truly felt like a dream come true. My first reaction was a mix of astonishment and pure joy, and I had to double check the news just to ensure it wasn’t a wonderfully elaborate prank!

As for celebrating, I treated myself to a slice of cake (because every milestone deserves cake!).  My family and friends were equally thrilled and proud, and their excitement made this achievement even more special. Thank you once again for this honour. I look forward to contributing further to this amazing journey.”

The Bengal Bangle

RAJIV RANJAN PANDEY, LAXMI DIAMONDS, BENGALURU

The traditional Shakha Pola bangles, worn by married women in West Bengal, get a modern makeover as bold cuffs. Symbolic of women’s empowerment, the rose gold broad cuff is decorated with sharp and luminous red and blue enamelled patterns. Adding a modern touch are structured motifs in black onyx, while diamond frames  add a  radiant contrast to the bright enamelled hues. A statement accessory that seamlessly blends luxury with tradition, this broad bangle celebrates heritage with a contemporary twist.

Rajiv, what’s been the most exciting or nerve-wracking part of participating in the Artisan Awards so far?

“As a designer, the most thrilling and challenging part is transforming abstract ideas into captivating creations.  The journey of blending concepts, colours, materials, and—most importantly—the story behind each design demands relentless brainstorming.

Platforms like The Artisan Awards inspire designers to push creative boundaries, showcasing concepts that resonate deeply. And competing with exceptional talent drives me to give my absolute best, aiming for this prestigious recognition. It’s both daunting and exhilarating—a challenge that fuels my passion and keeps me constantly motivated.”

Neel Virasat

VIJAY INDULKAR, WALKING TREE VENTURES

The navette-shaped 18-karat yellow gold ring draws inspiration from Jaipur’s City Palace, capturing its iconic indigo hues, latticed windows, and arches. This statement piece blends rich lapis blues with the shimmer of a midnight sky, reflecting the palace’s depth and charm. Uniquely, meenakari adorns the base, featuring white enamel granules topped with diamonds. A contemporary wirework base adds a modern touch, making this ring a timeless heirloom.

Vijay, what’s the most unexpected opportunity or compliment you’ve received after winning the Artisan Award?

It’s been an extraordinary 12-year journey in the jewellery industry, and securing the 2nd position in the Artisan Award 2024 was truly a defining moment in my career; a validation of the countless hours of dedication, creativity, and hard work I’ve invested in this industry. The appreciation I received from industry stalwarts and peers reaffirmed my belief in the transformative power of thoughtful design.

It’s not just about the accolades but about the journey of constant learning, evolution, and perseverance. The Artisan Award ignited a renewed sense of purpose in me, and I am more determined than ever to continue pushing the boundaries of design while staying true to the essence of our heritage.

I am incredibly grateful and happy about entering the final round once again. This year’s theme about reimagining Indian crafts offered me the opportunity to pay homage to the rich cultural tapestry of our nation through my craft.”

Louvers, The Window To History

ANVINDA RP, VUMMIDI BANGARU JEWELLERS

Taking design cues from the Louvers jewellery representing the Konyak and Naga ethnic tribes of Nagaland, these modern, slender earrings in 18-karat gold celebrate the coming together of organic materials, reflecting ancestral traditions. The intricate jaali (lattice) technique, inlaid on the quill, invites viewers to explore a tapestry of history, while the portrait cut frames offer a rich narrative of craftsmanship and heritage. Adorned with diamonds, onyx, and vivid green and pink plique-à-jour enamel, these versatile earrings embody timeless artistry and can be worn in two ways—with or without the elegant long drops.

Anvinda, How does it feel to see your work celebrated on such a prestigious platform? Has the journey been everything you imagined?

It’s surreal to see my work celebrated on such a prestigious platform. Each step has been a learning experience, pushing me to explore new boundaries and inspiring me to keep innovating.”
