Alrosa’s Diamond Sales Surge 72% To $3.91 Billion In Jan-Nov

Alrosa’s overall sales of rough and polished diamonds in November 2021 fell 14% year-on-year to $334 million, including proceeds from rough diamond sales of $310 million, and polished diamond sales of $24 million. November sales were however 8% higher than October and at the same level as July.

For the January to November 2021 period, total rough and polished diamond sales climbed 72% year-on-year to $3.915 billion, reflecting the recovery from the pandemic-related slowdown in 2020. The eleven-month rough diamond sales grew 72% to $3.736 billion and polished sales rose 82% to $179 million on a year-on-year basis.

Evgeny Agureev, Deputy CEO of Alrosa, said, “End demand for diamond jewellery in the key markets keeps growing at a double-digit rate in Q4, driven by the unleashing of pent-up spending and higher confidence among the main consumer groups. Market participants see solid demand for bridal jewellery and expect this trend to continue in 2022. Midstream inventories are currently at low levels due to the limited availability of rough supplied by mining companies and continuously strong consumer demand.”
