Gübelin Gem Lab opening its laboratory in Bangkok, Thailand, offering the full range of gemmological services, with a focus on the recently launched Gem Passport to meet the needs of the gemstone industry.

Gübelin Gem Lab’s expansion reflects a strategic move to meet the growing demand for reliable, trustworthy gemmological services.

The new testing facility in Bangkok focuses on the Gem Passport. This new and innovative gemmological document is available for unmounted rubies, blue sapphires and emeralds up to 3 carats. It contains the main identification features of a gemstone, i.e. species and variety, country of origin and a simplified disclosure of the treatment status. The Gem Passport is issued on the basis of fully automated evaluation of the analytical data (spectra, chemistry) collected from a stone, and is offered at a fee of USD $215.

The Gem Passport focuses on key features of the gem, which are determined by artificial intelligence. This shortens the testing workflow, in particular the labour-intensive microscopic assessment, and allows for lower pricing. Thanks to the Gem Passport based on Gemtelligence, also gemstones of moderate value can get a genuine Gübelin Gem Lab document.

“The introduction of the Gem Passport represents a milestone in making trusted gem analyses more accessible and affordable,” explains Daniel Nyfeler, Managing Director, Gübelin Gem Lab.

Raphael Gübelin, President of the House of Gübelin, adds: “As one of the most vibrant centres for gemstone trade, Bangkok is an ideal location for the Gübelin Gem Lab to offer its services, especially the Gem Passport powered by Gemtelligence.”

Now, the Gem Lab founded in 1923 has four permanent locations world-wide, based in Lucerne, Hong Kong, New York and Bangkok.
