Christie’s said that its Paris Fine Jewels sale on 8th July fetched a total of $5.23 million and witnessed global participation with buyers coming from 30 countries across five continents. The auction house noted that the sale confirmed strong interest for fine jewels, including those coming from Place Vendôme.
The top lot of the sale was a poetic sapphire, diamond and ruby desk clock by Van Cleef & Arpels coming from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’ personal collection, which sold for €310,000, almost eight times its pre-sale estimate, after a bidding battle between five telephone bidders.
Collectors displayed enthusiasm for creations signed by the prestigious names such as Cartier; a beautiful diamond ring sold for €175,000 and a rare Art Déco emerald and diamond bracelet from Chaumet sold for €92,500. Further highlights included a sapphire and diamond ring by Verdura (pictured here) which sold for €274,000 and an emerald and diamond necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels that was sold to a buyer on Christie’s Live for €81,250, doubling its pre-sale estimate.
