GJEPC & GIA Conduct Specialised Gemmology Training for Customs Officers

As part of the ongoing training programme for newly posted officers at the Precious Cargo Customs Clearance Centre (PCCCC) in Mumbai, a seven-day specialised session was conducted by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the world’s leading authority in gemmological education.

Held during September and October 2025, the sessions trained around 45 Customs officers. GJEPC facilitated the programme pro bono under its MoU with GIA.

The training aimed to enhance officers’ understanding of gemmological principles and improve their ability to manage import and export examination procedures related to the gem and jewellery trade.

In addition, GJEPC organised a dedicated session on the Kimberley Process (KP) Certification Scheme, offering participants an overview of the global framework that regulates the trade in rough diamonds.
